Summer Solstice

Some twenty thousand people gathered at Stonehenge in Wiltshire, UK, to witness the sunrise on the longest day of 2010.

It was a wonderful atmosphere. From sunset to sunrise, there were Druids, Morris Dancers, hippies, party animals, tourists, travellers and quite a lot of security and police!

It’s the one time in the year that visitors can move amongst the stones of this 5000 year old monument, so everyone was eager to celebrate the opportunity in their own way.

For me it was a cappuccino, after watching the sun come up between the stones!

Cornwall in Coast magazine

I’ve just heard this image will be featured in the next UK Coast magazine.

They asked about the story behind the photograph, so here it is…

“The day had started unpromisingly with squally showers, but as the afternoon wore on, the clouds started to clear. I’ve always loved St. Michael’s Mount for its slightly other-worldly quality, and envisaged taking some pictures, silhouetting the peak against the sunset. As often happens, something else caught my eye. Here it was the composition of the Mount, the stream entering the sea and the way the wind whipped through the grass on the dunes. Finally, the family walking up the beach gave a sense of what it was like to be there.

Cornwall is an amazing place and I hope to spend some more time there shooting later this year.”

Alone in a Crowd…

This Sentry at Horse Guards’ Parade was distinctly on his own. If the stream of people wasn’t flowing past, they were posing for their tourist snaps…

Everyone jumped out of the way when he snapped to attention and marched off through the crowd.

It was a cold morning, but the light on St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge was beautiful.

Southend Seaside

A quick visit to the seaside… this could have been shot at dusk any time in the year. But I had to go down to the beach when it was below freezing.

It still makes me think of summer though!

Snowy Snowdonia

This was part of a quick shoot to take advantage of the rare combination of snow and sun!

Apart from cold toes and getting the car stuck, it was a successful trip.

Going to the Movies!

I’m excited to tell you I will now be shooting timelapse as well as conventional stills. In the near future, this will also lead to real-time video of some great locations around the world.
