It was a wonderful atmosphere. From sunset to sunrise, there were Druids, Morris Dancers, hippies, party animals, tourists, travellers and quite a lot of security and police!

It’s the one time in the year that visitors can move amongst the stones of this 5000 year old monument, so everyone was eager to celebrate the opportunity in their own way.

For me it was a cappuccino, after watching the sun come up between the stones!

They asked about the story behind the photograph, so here it is…

“The day had started unpromisingly with squally showers, but as the afternoon wore on, the clouds started to clear. I’ve always loved St. Michael’s Mount for its slightly other-worldly quality, and envisaged taking some pictures, silhouetting the peak against the sunset. As often happens, something else caught my eye. Here it was the composition of the Mount, the stream entering the sea and the way the wind whipped through the grass on the dunes. Finally, the family walking up the beach gave a sense of what it was like to be there.

Cornwall is an amazing place and I hope to spend some more time there shooting later this year.”

It still makes me think of summer though!

They say it hasn’t snowed this much in London for 20 years…

I just know it made for some great pictures!

I’m back in the UK, full of festive cheer, after a crazy final 3 weeks in the US.

After Antelope Canyon, featured in the last post, I revisited Grand Canyon, then zigzagged out of Arizona and across SE Utah via Monument Valley, Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park, before scaring myself silly driving I-70 in a car clearly incapable of dealing with the piles of snow building up under my tyres!

Once the New Year madness has settled, I’ll post an update with the last part of the shoot, update the Mother Road Images website with the new material and give some pointers to my agents’ sites where you can see more from the Open Road.
